Reflections Arts Program

The National PTA Reflections Arts Program
is on at CWES for 2011 - 2012 !!!

2011 - 2012 Theme: "Diversity Means..."

Volunteer(s) needed to keep Reflections Arts running at CWES

Reflections Arts is in need of volunteer(s) to run the program at CWES. The current Chair can offer assistance in the background to anyone who volunteers. The Current Chair will no longer be at CWES after this school year, making this a transition year. CWES is an Arts Focus school in FCPS, and it would be a shame if no one steps forward to keep the Reflections Arts program running at CWES – a program that encourages and recognizes students' initiative and artistic expression. Reflections is purely all about the students. Reflections complements school art classes by providing students another avenue through which to explore their artistic talents – and in areas that are not part of the school curriculum (Film Production, Dance Choreography, Musical Composition, Photography). CWES students have received National, State, and District awards in past years. CWES students will not have these opportunities moving forward if no volunteer steps forward during this transition year.

What Is Reflections Arts?

Reflections Arts is a National PTA program that encourages and recognizes student creativity and artistic expression in visual arts, literature, musical composition, dance choreography, film production, and photography. Reflections Program awards are given at the local (school), council, district, state, and national levels. National award–winning entries are showcased in the PTA Reflections Program gallery at: http://www.ptareflections.org/cs/program_gallery

Thousands of students nation-wide create artwork entries each year.

Arts Categories are:
• Visual Art
• Literature
• Dance Choreography
• Musical Composition
• Film Production
• Photography

How does it work?

Entries are grouped for judging by art category and by the following grade divisions: Pre-K - 2 (Primary), 3 - 5 (Intermediate), 6 - 8 (Middle/Junior), 9 - 12 (Senior). Works of art are judged by arts professionals in the community, focusing on interpretation of the year’s theme. Entries that receive "Outstanding Interpretation" at each level proceed to the next level, starting with School level, then Fairfax County Council, Northern Virginia District (Fairfax, Falls Church, Arlington, Alexandria), State, and National levels. However, ALL participants are recognized!
