Upcoming Programs & Activities
Jan 30 Parent Coffee/Tea
Rather than offer an evening program in January, we’re meeting at Sally’s house for a get-together. We’ll share some of the lessons learned from various parent workshops our members have attended, report on our visit to the PRC, and share information on summer camps and enrichment opportunities. Please RSVP to Sally if you plan to attend!
March - April - May - June (dates TBD)
We are discussing offering evening gatherings to focus on such topics as outside resources, middle school and beyond, bullying and other social issues, and parent advocacy. Watch this space and sign up for the Yahoo! group to keep current on planned programs.
Please contact Sally Milian (milianfive@gmail.com) if you have ideas or suggestions for future programs, or would otherwise like to support the Committee’s activities.
Virginia Department of Education proposed revisions governing special education are presently under review by Governor Kaine; some of these revisions potentially limit the participation of parents in the IEP process. The website Wrightslaw has extensive information, on the proposed revisions, how to contact Governor Kaine, and the overall process -- to visit their website and learn more, CLICK HERE .

The PTA Special Education Committee is dedicated to ensuring that all parents have resources and a voice in their children’s education, and to enhancing the parent-school partnership. We maintain a Yahoo! group listserv to share information on conferences, programs, articles of interest and our own experience; frequently meet as a parent support and information group; and sponsor programs of interest to both parents and educational team members.
