Cougar Crumbs

When was the first Cougar Crawl?

The Cougar Crawl originated 10 years ago as a way to connect the school with the community and was so special that first year because it was on the heels of 9/11. Off duty police were hired and it became a celebration of the entire community, not just CWES. Red, white and blue balloons and community leaders were there to kick off the event.

CWES Needs your help in moving!

Stages of the renovation!

A note from Mrs. Messinger, Principal

Dear CWES Parents and Guardians,

The PTA will be asking you for your support during our two days of packing up for the move at the end of this month in preparation for renovation. As you know, we are expected to move just about every classroom. Grades 4-6 will be in the new quads and K-3 will remain in the building. Packing up is a daunting task for our teachers. In order to minimize disruption to the instructional program, while still protecting the personal time of our wonderful classroom teachers, we are doing all of our packing from 1 p.m. until dismissal on Thursday, January 26th and Friday, January 27th. We chose these dates because it is the close of a marking period and will give the teachers two days (January 30th and 31st) to set up their new classrooms before students return on February 1st.

The movers are arriving at 4 p.m. on Friday, January 27th so we need to have everything ready by then – boxed and labeled. To do that, I have spoken to the teachers about moving students out of their classrooms and into three main areas of the school – library, cafeteria, and gym. Groups of specialists will, under the direction of administrators, and with input from classroom teachers, conduct smaller group instruction with the students while the teachers have the opportunity to pack up their classrooms with the support of parent volunteers. Teachers will only have abbreviated specials – art, music, PE – on one of the two days giving additional instructional time to the teachers between 9:05 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. (only a lunch break/recess would all be moved to the afternoon).

The staff and I think this plan balances the instructional needs of the children with their need to get their rooms ready to move by 4 p.m. on January 27th. We can start fresh in the third quarter with minimal disruptions.

Please see PTA section below for additional information on where to sign up to help the teachers on either or both of those afternoons. We are looking for a minimum of thirty parents on each day.

Thank you in advance for your attention to and support of our “moving day” plan.

Warm Regards,
Barb

FROM THE PTA

Moving Volunteers Needed Parents--We NEED your help with the upcoming CWES move. This is a big deal for the entire Canterbury Woods school community. To make sure the move goes smoothly for your kids, teachers and staff will need volunteers to help with moving their classrooms or with the student activities in either the cafeteria, gym or library.

This is an exciting time for the teachers and students but they can't have a smooth transition without you. If you can't volunteer the whole time, please consider helping for an hour or two. Every bit makes a big difference!

Here’s the link to the move sign-up.
